Martian Successor Nadesico is an anime series that aired in Japan from 1996-1997. Created by Xebec, its staff includes director Tatsuo Sato, mechanical designers Mika Akitaka and Yasuhiro Moriki, character designer Keiji Gotoh and composer Takayuki Hattori. The story focuses on Akito Tenkawa, a Martian refugee and aspiring cook who is forced to join the crew of the battleship Nadesico to fend off an invasion by the Jovian Lizards. The TV series was adapted into a manga by Kia Asamiya, and the anime was followed by several games and the 1998 sequel movie The Prince of Darkness. The series was originally released on home video in North America by ADV Films, but it has since been re-released by Nozomi Entertainment.
