As part of its testing duties, the Titans Test Team conducted functional testing of various optional weapons and equipment. Among these was the high mobility backpack, an enhanced version of the backpack used by the YRMS-106 Hi-Zack, which was meant to be tested for compatibility with the GM series. The high mobility backpack contained a more powerful generator than the standard RMS-106 Hi-Zack backpack, and the mobile suit’s legs were fitted with the same thruster units used by the RGM-86R GM III. However, after the formal adoption of the Hi-Zack, the production of this new machine was given priority and the development and testing of the enhanced backpack were postponed. Once production of the Hi-Zack was under way, the backpack enhancement plan was reactivated and a prototype model was assigned to the Titans Test Team. The unit was armed with a prototype beam launcher and an RMS-117 Galbaldy β extendable shield with two spare beam launcher barrels attached. Testing of a prototype beam launcher was also in progress at this point, and due to their generally satisfactory test results these devices were later adopted in the RMS-106CS Hi-Zack Custom.
