Built from surplus parts from the Earth Federation Forces’ secret RX Plan, the RX-78-01[N] Gundam Local Type was a prototype mobile suit designed to gather data from environmental tests on Earth. Equipment specific to space operation was removed and replaced with new equipment for ground and underwater tests. The RX-78-01[N]’s armaments included a machine gun, a shield and two beam sabers. Data from the underwater tests was used in the development of the RAG-79 Aqua GM and RAG-79-G1 Gundam Marine Type. Following these tests, more RX Plan surplus parts were used to construct the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type.
