Gundam SEED DESTINY Phase 20: PAST

0
Summary

In this clip show, Shinn recounts events from the war in SEED from his perspective, along with events from DESTINY. His life with his family is briefly shown via new footage. Also, it’s seen that after his family died, Todaka was the one who found Shinn and helped him escape. Later, he arranged things so that Shinn could go into space alone and live in the PLANTs. A brief glimpse is shown of Shinn’s time at the ZAFT academy with Lunamaria, Rey, Meyrin, Vino and Yolant.

Commentary

It’s a shame that this episode is such a waste. Given that the special non-numbed clip show EDITED aired just a few weeks before this, what was the point of doing another clip show so soon? Although there are a few minutes of new footage here, they only provide an all too limited glimpse of Shinn’s past. Instead of seeing events from SEED for the 50th time, I would have liked to have seen more about Shinn’s family, or more of what happened to him after they died. A few seconds is devoted to Shinn’s time at the ZAFT academy, and it would’ve been interesting to see how he met Lunamaria and Rey and how they all become friends. Because none of this is explored in-depth, the episode is a waste thanks to Clip Show ‘Em All Fukuda.
