The VF-1J Armored Valkyrie was an enhanced weapons and armor configuration of the VF-1J. Intended only for special operations, this version equipped the GBP-1S ground-combat protector weapon system, which added multiple armor pieces over the main body and limited operation the Battroid mode. The GBP-1S featured several extra weapons, including micro-missile launchers on the shoulders, chest and legs. It also mounted six hand grenades on the waist armor and two armor-penetrating projectiles on the forearm launchers. In October 2009, Vermilion Team leader Hikaru Ichijyo of the Macross used the GBP-1S equipment for a standard patrol operation that almost ended disastrously after encountering a Zentradi Quel-Quallie scout pod. Despite facing a barrage of missiles from the enemy, the GBP-1S armor absorbed the damage and protected Hikaru, after which it was purged.
