Victory Gundam Ep. 8: Clash! Wave Attack

0
Summary

Uso wakes up from a nightmare of monsters executing him and Oi Nyung with the guillotine. Early in the morning, Uso leaves the Camion transport with Shahkti and Karlmann. Marbet and Romero ask him where he’s going so early, and he says he’s going back to Kasarelia. They say they need him because he’s a specialist and they have to fight BESPA. He says that they are unreasonable and having a kid pilot mobile suits is their wishful thinking. Romero says they need an expert pilot like Uso, and Marbet thinks they are pretty pathetic to make a kid fight for them. At the Largaine base, Cronicle meets with Pippiniden and sees that he and his men are watching videos of the Godzorla‘s combat with the Victory Gundam. Pippiniden is confident that his men can destroy it. Cronicle then meets with Dupre, who tells him that Fuala has made a mistake by using the guillotine on Oi Nyung. Tassilo has ordered her to come back to space for court-martial, and Dupre wants Cronicle to escort her. He wants Cronicle to go to the neutral spaceport Arti Gibraltar in Spain and take it over. He believes Cronicle is the only one who can do it. Katejina looks at the Tomliats and tells Cronicle that they are beautiful suits. A group of Pippiniden’s soldiers launch in their Tomliats and attack the Camion transport. Marbet takes off in the Core Fighter, while Warren and Odelo use machine guns to fight them off. The Camion transport pulls into a nearby ruined city for cover. The Core Fighter’s ammo isn’t enough, and she asks Romero to send the other Victory parts as quickly as possible. Uso and Shahkti return to Kasarelia, and she asks him if he plans on going back to the Camion group. He spots a picture of Shahkti as a baby with her Aunt Maria, who looks like Queen Maria Pure Armonia of Zanscare, and a guy that looks like Cronicle. He thinks the two Marias are the same, and Shahkti says that Maria is just a popular name. Uso spots the distant battle outside and thinks about how everyone will die. He takes off in his hovercraft and tells Shahkti he will return soon.

Marbet lures the attacking Tomliat to a flooded ruined city and engages it there while Romero prepares to launch the Top and Bottom Fighters. Marbet is able to dodge the attack long enough to dock into the Victory Gundam. She realizes that even with superior armament she can’t win. Nearby, the other waiting Tomliats launch and start attacking her too. One of them grapples on to her, and she ejects the Top Fighter to escape. As she flies through the city, Uso appears on his paraglider and lands on a building. He falls off the building, and she saves him. A Tomliat attacks, and Marbet hides in the forest so Uso can take over. She tells him the Top Fighter is near a tall building, and he takes off. He takes and is attacked by the Tomliats. He separates the Core Fighter to dock with the Top Fighter, followed by the Bottom. He finds that the Victory Gundam’s right arm has been disabled, so he switches the rifle over to the left. The Tomliats attack him with beam bazookas and beam tomahawks, and he furiously attacks. He is able to destroy several Tomliats until he runs out of ammo. One of them grapples him, and the others prepare to tow him away when a Core and Bottom Fighter piloted by Oliver Inoe attacks. Uso is able to break away and destroy another Tomliat before the others escape. He lands the Victory Gundam in the river and passes out. Oliver goes over to the Victory Gundam and can’t believe that a kid like Uso was the pilot. Odelo tells him the proof is right there, and Uso mumbles about finding Shahkti. He has visions of her and the guillotine and wakes up with everyone standing over him.

Commentary

This episode was mostly another battle, this time in the ruins of some unnamed city. We don’t get to see very much of Cronicle or Katejina, but there are some important developments. Fuala has screwed up by using the guillotine and will pay the price. Having Cronicle take her to Arti Gibraltar in Spain is just an excuse to get control of the spaceport. And that picture Uso found seems to be pretty important. It seems that the Zanscare are ruled by Queen Maria Armonia, and it was previously established that Cronicle is her brother. What is Shahkti’s connection to them? Uso finally realizes he’s not afraid of being a pilot, and at the same time we’re introduced to a new character, the nerdy pilot Oliver Inoe. Maybe next time something really important will happen.
