The Z-01 Lancelot, brainchild of Special Technical Envoy head engineer Lloyd Asplund, went from mothballed prototype to linchpin of the Britannian military in short order thanks in no small part to its skilled pilot, Suzaku Kururugi. In order to increase the Lancelot’s combat effectiveness, Lloyd designed a special Float Unit, modeled on the same system employed by the aerial battleship Avalon. The Float system used a Higgs Field Neutralizer, which counteracted the force of gravity and allows the Lancelot to fly and hover. Despite the tactical advantage flight affords, the Float Unit needed to be used sparingly, as it drained energy quickly and could leave the Lancelot out of power if not managed effectively. The Lancelot Air Cavalry, as the modified unit was dubbed, was first deployed to thwart the Chinese Federation’s attempted takeover of Kyushu and later participated in the battle against the Black Rebellion in the Tokyo Settlement. One year after the Black Rebellion, Suzaku was promoted to the Empire’s elite Knights of the Round and participated in Britannia’s war with the E.U., where he earned the nickname “White Reaper.” Following Suzaku’s transfer back to Area 11, Lloyd upgraded the Lancelot once more, into the Z-01/D Lancelot Conquista.
