The ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II was a mobile suit used by the global peacekeeping agency Compass in C.E. 75. It was an upgraded version of Shinn Asuka’s ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam, a ZAFT mobile suit that was heavily damaged at the end of the Second Bloody Valentine War in C.E. 74. After the war, the damaged suit was transferred to Morgenroete, Inc., where engineer Erica Simmons repaired and upgraded it to the Spec II version. The Spec II was equipped with a new reactor that resulted in a more muted color scheme when Variable Phase Shift Armor was activated. It also featured a new panoramic cockpit that was standard in Compass suits. Its head was equipped with a deuterion beam transmission system to supply power to the ZGMF-56E2 Impulse Gundam Spec II. Like the original version, the Spec II could create afterimages from its “Voiture Lumiere” propulsion system. By spreading Dupe Particles, the Spec II could generate dozens of afterimages to overwhelm an enemy. The Spec II’s base armaments were unchanged from the original version, but it could increase its combat power by docking with the newly developed A-GXQ754/V2 Zeus Silhouette. The Zeus Silhouette, capable of operating as a separate support unit, was equipped with two booster units, several missile launchers and a long linear cannon. In C.E. 75, Shinn reclaimed the Spec II and used it to great effect in combat, single handedly killing three members of the Kingdom of Foundation’s elite Black Knight Squad. Afterward, Shinn used the Zeus Silhouette to destroy the Moon-based cannon Requiem.
