Zone of the Enders is a 3D action game originally released worldwide for the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2001 by Konami. Produced by Hideo Kojima, it is directed and written by Noriaki Okamura, featuring mechanical designs by Yoji Shinkawa and character designs by Nobuyoshi Nishimura. By 2172, humanity has colonized the solar system as far out as Jupiter’s moons. However, the “Enders” who live in the outer reaches of the system face discrimination from Earth. The story focuses on Leo Stenbuck, a young boy who accidentally becomes the pilot of the orbital frame Jehuty when Mars’ BAHRAM forces attack the Antilia space colony orbiting Jupiter. The game was followed by the 2003 sequel Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. In 2012, the game was re-released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection.
