The GF13-017NJ Shining Gundam was a mobile fighter that represented Neo Japan during the first part of the 13th Gundam Fight in FC 60. Designed by Dr. Mikamura, the Shining Gundam was primarily focused on melee combat. Its armaments included a pair of head-mounted vulcan guns, two torso-mounted machine cannons, a pair of beam swords and four shining shot beam guns. The Shining Gundam was piloted by Domon Kasshu, an expert martial artist trained by Master Asia, the winner of the 12th Gundam Fight. Master Asia passed his title of King of Hearts to Domon, signifying that Domon was a space colony martial arts champion. The Shining Gundam’s signature attack was the Shining Finger, a finishing move where the hand was charged with energy to crush an opponent’s head. The Shining Gundam’s most powerful attack was the Shining Finger Sword, which could only be used after Domon unlocked the Super Mode. This system was powered by Domon’s anger and proved unreliable until he was able to master reaching a state of complete calm. Once he accomplished this, he was able to unlock the Shining Gundam’s powerful all-gold Hyper Mode.

In FC 60, Domon initiated the first match of the 13th Gundam Fight by traveling to Neo Italy and defeating Michelo Chariot’s GF13-055NI Neros Gundam. While publicly representing Neo Japan in the Gundam Fight, Domon was secretly on a quest to track down his brother Kyoji and the JDG-00X Devil Gundam. Domon’s travels took him to Neo Japan, where he was reunited with Master Asia, only to discover soon after that his former master was now a follower of the Devil Gundam. Facing defeat, Domon returned to the Guiana Highlands in South America to undergo rigorous training. Unfortunately, the Devil Gundam followed and set off a large-scale battle against Domon and the new members of the Shuffle Alliance. The Shining Gundam was critically damaged in a battle with Master Asia’s GF13-001NHII Master Gundam, which forced Domon to switch to the more powerful GF13-017NJII God Gundam for the Gundam Fight Finals in Neo Hong Kong.
