The mass produced GNX-609T GN-XIII was the successor to the GNX-607T GN-XII and was used by the Earth Sphere Federation and A-LAWS. Because it was not deployed in sufficient numbers, the military still used older mobile suits that predated the formation of the ESF. The basic performance of A-LAWS and ESF units was the same, but A-LAWS units could be customized by the pilot for increased performance. The ESF units were often adjusted to have longer operating times by reducing the suit’s output and tweaking the particle consumption. Unlike the earlier GNX-603T GN-X and the Gundam Thrones series, the GN particles emitted from the beam weapons were non-toxic. Due to their design similarities, it was possible to upgrade a GN-XII into a GN-XIII through parts swapping, and the GN-XIII itself could be upgraded into the later GNX-803T GN-XIV. The GN-XIII’s armaments were similar to its predecessors, although its main new weapon was the GN Lance, which also doubled as a rifle. The GN Lance could generate a GN Field when used in close combat and was powered by a large GN Condenser. Due to the weapon’s large size, a pilot needed skill in wielding it. The GN-XIII could be equipped with the original’s GN Beam Rifle, but this was usually set aside in favor of the GN Lance. The GN-XIII could also use hand grenades, as well as an NGN Bazooka that could fire both GN particle missiles, solid/physical missiles and other missiles. Following the dissolution of A-LAWS, the ESF rolled out the upgraded GN-XIV.
