The GNX-704T/SP Ahead Smultron was a variant of the GNX-704T Ahead customized for a pilot who could utilize quantum brainwaves. Its official name was Ahead Quantum Brainwave Type, with the development name “Smultron” representing the Swedish word for wild strawberry. The data collected from the Smultron was intended to be used for the development of next generation mobile suits. Parts of the Smultron and its equipment could be controlled with quantum brainwaves, which allowed the suit to be controlled by thoughts, which were faster than reflexes. To take advantage of this characteristic, the suit was designed as a high mobility type and was hence equipped with a special backpack and enlarged shoulder thrusters.
The Smultron’s armaments included a GN Beam Rifle that was enlarged from the standard Ahead’s rifle. As the targeting system, particle compression rate adjustment, etc., were all controlled through quantum brainwaves, this rifle could only be used by the Smultron. Other armaments included GN Vulcan Guns, a GN Submachine Gun, GN Beam Sabers and a GN Shield shaped so that it did not hinder the suit’s movement during high mobility maneuvers. The Smultron was initially piloted by Soma Peries, an experimental super soldier from the Human Reform League who was reassigned to A-LAWS. The Smultron was later reassigned to A-LAWS pilot Louise Halevy, who was artificially enhanced by Ribbons Almark.
