The GNX-704T Ahead was a mobile suit developed by A-LAWS and based on the original GNX-603T GN-X. Its performance was believed to surpass that of Celestial Being’s third generation Gundams. Because of the desire for higher performance, the basic structure of the Ahead resembled the Gundams more than the GN-X. The Ahead’s GN Drive parts were similar to the Gundams, but they were covered by armor due to the negative feelings citizens had about the Gundams. The Ahead was designed by engineers from the former Human Reform League to be the new standard for mobile suits equipped with GN Drive Taus. Thus it was designed to be versatile for all combat situations, and variants like the GNX-704T/AC Ahead Sakigake and GNX-704T/SP Ahead Smultron were created to develop future mass production variants. The Ahead’s GN Drive Tau was supplemented by a sub-battery in providing electrical energy. As the output increased on future GN Drive Taus, this feature was omitted from later suits.

The Ahead’s main armament was a GN Beam Rifle that had firepower and range superior to the GN-X’s. The rifle was fitted with GN Condensers to conserve the suit’s GN particles. The GN Submachine Gun served as the base of the GN Beam Rifle and had lower power but a higher rate of fire, making it sufficient for battles with non-GN Drive equipped suits. The Ahead also had a container storing antipersonnel automatons that were powered by GN Condensers. Other armaments included GN Vulcan Guns, GN Beam Sabers, a GN Shield, an NGN Bazooka and a GN Missile Container. The Ahead’s hip blocks could function as weapon racks to store additional weapons. The Ahead was regularly used in 2312 during A-LAWS’ battles against the reconstituted Celestial Being.
