The Ra Cailum was the lead vessel in a new battleship class developed by the Earth Federation Forces before the outbreak of the Second Neo Zeon War in UC 0093. The Ra Cailum combined design elements from both EFF ships and the AEUG’s Argama class. The ship featured both a normal bridge and a more protected battle bridge for its crew to transfer to. Its hangar could store eight mobile suits and featured two launch catapults. Like the earlier Pegasus class, the Ra Cailum utilized a Minovsky craft system and could freely enter Earth’s atmosphere and fly unassisted at low altitudes. The ship’s armaments included 2-barrel main and secondary guns, plus multiple missile launchers.

In UC 0093, the Ra Cailum was assigned to serve as the flagship of the Londo Bell task force under the command of Capt. Bright Noa, a veteran of the One Year War, the Gryps War and the First Neo Zeon War. When Char Aznable initiated the Second Neo Zeon War, Bright led Londo Bell’s response in the attempt to stop the asteroid Axis from slamming into Earth. Three years later, the Ra Cailum was involved in the Laplace Incident and played a role in exposing the collusion between the EFF and the Vist Foundation. The EFF continued to field Ra Cailum class ships as late as the Zanscare War in UC 0153.
