During the One Year War, the Principality of Zeon wreaked havoc in desert environments with designs such as the MS-06D Zaku Desert Type and YMS-09D Dom Tropical Test Type. This led the Earth Federation Forces to develop their own desert combat mobile suit, the RGM-79F Desert GM. The Desert GM’s body was a variation of the RGM-79F GM Ground Type. It was equipped with reactive armor, as well as special joints to deal with the intake of sand. The Desert GM was armed with a beam spray gun, a beam saber and a combination railcannon with missile pod. The Desert GM was deployed mainly in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.
