The RGM-86R Nouvelle GM III was a variant of the mass production type RGM-86R that appeared during the First Neo Zeon War in UC 0088. While the standard GM III was created by upgrading existing RMS-179 GM II units, the Nouvelle GM III was a newly produced machine with higher generator output and a different head design. Its new head contained more vulcan gun ammunition and enhanced sensors, and extra ducts were installed in its chest to support the new generator. Like the standard GM III, this type could be equipped with missile launchers on its waist and shoulders, making it an excellent support mobile suit. Although the GM III was best known as a Karaba mobile suit, it was also used by the AEUG and the regular Earth Federation Forces. With the end of the Gryps War, the AEUG halted production of the MSA-003 Nemo and adopted the Nouvelle GM III as its new mass production machine. The Nouvelle GM III also served as a main mobile suit for both sides during the Pezun Rebellion, and large numbers of these machines were deployed by the EFF Home Fleet and the rebellious Aeno Fleet during the battle for Ayers City.
