Based on the highly successful RPI-13 Sutherland, the RPI-029 Gloucester was a close-combat Knightmare Frame reserved for only the best pilots. Instead of using the same stun tonfa wielded by the Sutherland and the RPI-11 Glasgow, the Gloucester’s primary weapon was a heavy lance, inspired by the knights of old. This weapon incorporated a set of expanding prongs on four sides, allowing it to easily trap and disarm enemy weapons. Combined with the Gloucester’s high mobility, the lance was a fearsome weapon, and could be used to penetrate right into an enemy Knightmare’s cockpit, killing the pilot and preventing them from escaping via the standard ejection system. The Gloucester was used almost exclusively by Princess Cornelia Li Britannia and her elite bodyguards, including the elite Glaston Knights. Following the failure of Zero’s Black Rebellion, the Gloucester became Britannia’s mainline Knightmare, maintaining the same high performance as the ace pilot model that preceded it. With the development of an economical, mass-producible Float system, the Gloucester was given a tactical advantage in Britannia’s war with the rebellious Order of the Black Knights.
