The RX-178-X0 Gundam Mk-II Prototype Unit 0 was a successor to the RX-78T Gundam created by the Titans. As a prototype, it was distinguished by the pursuit of performance without regard for cost, and its specifications could be described as monstrous for its time. In particular, it adopted new technologies like the movable frame and panoramic monitor which appeared in the Gundam Development Project, and aside from the strength of its armor, its capabilities were a match for those of the second-generation mobile suits which appeared in the subsequent Gryps War. Its armament included beam sabers and a beam rifle whose output rivaled that of a Magellan class battleship’s main cannon. But although its output was high, the beam rifle’s accuracy was poor, and a limiter that could constrain the output and a selector that could change the power according to the combat situation were added when the RX-178 Gundam Mk-II is constructed during the later Gryps War. In terms of overall performance, this machine boasted capabilities in the top class of the One Year War era, but shortcomings like its extremely short operating time and inferior ease of operation made it suitable for only a select few pilots. Its cost-performance ratio was also very poor, and it was said that a few Pegasus class warships could have been built in place of this one machine.
