The Thoroughbred was a Pegasus class assault carrier constructed by the Earth Federation Forces at its Jaburo base on Earth. Like other ships of its class, it was constructed from multiple blocks, including living quarters that featured an artificial gravity area. Differences in construction resulted in some Pegasus ships having radically different appearances. The Thoroughbred also utilized a Minovsky craft system, which allowed it to fly at low altitudes on Earth and escape unassisted from the planet’s atmosphere. Launched in November UC 0079 under the command of Capt. Lombard Kilstein, the Thoroughbred served as the flagship of the 16th Autonomous Corps during the One Year War. The ship was assigned two advanced mobile suits: the RX-78-4 Gundam 4th piloted by Luce Kassel, and the RX-78-5 Gundam 5th piloted by Ford Romfellow. During one battle, the Gundam 4th was destroyed and its pilot killed by the explosion of an experimental mega beam launcher. At the end of the war, the Thoroughbred was assigned to transport Zeon Prime Minister Darcia Bahkarov to Granada to conduct peace negotiations. However, the ship came under attack from Zeon forces that refused to acknowledge the end of the war. In UC 0081, the Thoroughbred was commanded by Capt. Stuart and served as the base of operations for Hugues Courand’s Phantom Sweep team, which was tasked with hunting down the Zeon remnant unit Invisible Knights.
