The VF-1S Valkyrie was a variant of the VF-1A manufactured by Northrom for use by U.N. Spacy. Compared the VF-1A, the VF-1S utilized a different head design with four anti-aircraft laser cannons. Additionally, it featured enhanced engines with improved thrust. The VF-1S variant was typically assigned to commanders and squadron leaders, such as Roy Focker of the Skull Squadron stationed aboard the Macross. Roy’s VF-1S sported the same color scheme and personal emblem as his earlier VF-0S Phoenix. After Roy was killed in action during Space War I, his VF-1S was inherited by his friend and protege, Hikaru Ichijyo. Hikaru continued to use the VF-1S through 2012, when he switched to the next generation VF-4 Lightning III.
