The VF-0S Phoenix was a flight commander variant of the VF-0. Compared to the standard VF-0A, the S-type’s head featured two laser cannons instead of one. It also removed the control system’s limiters, allowing the pilot to make full use of the fighter’s abilities in all modes. One VF-0S was assigned to Roy Focker, an ace pilot who fought in the Unification Wars and served as a test pilot for the VF-X. In 2008, Roy participated in the Bird Human Incident with the Anti-U.N. on the Mayan island in the South Pacific. Throughout the course of the conflict, Roy piloted several configurations of his VF-0S, including a Reactive Armor version and the “Angel” configuration. After the conflict’s end, Roy was assigned to the Macross and switched to the new VF-1S Valkyrie.
