Macross Zero

Macross Zero is an OVA series released in Japan from 2002-2004. Produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Macross, it is a prequel to the 1982 TV series Super Dimension Fortress Macross. Directed by Shoji Kawamori, it was written by Hiroshi Ohnogi and features mechanical designs by Kawamori, Kazutaka Miyatake and Junya Ishigaki, character designs by Takuya Saito and a score composed by Kuniaki Haishima. Set in 2008, the story focuses on Shin Kudo, a U.N. Spacy pilot who crashes on the Mayan island after a fight against the Anti-U.N. forces. Shin is pulled into a conflict between both parties as they attempt to gain control of a Protoculture relic called AFOS. Anime Limited released the series on home video in North America in 2025, but it is also streaming on Disney+.
