During the Bloody Valentine War, ZAFT introduced the ZGMF-1017M GINN High Maneuver Type, a high mobility mobile suit equipped with more thrusters than a standard ZGMF-1017 GINN. Later, ZAFT created the ZGMF-1017M2 GINN High Maneuver Type II. Like its predecessor, the Type II featured additional thrusters mounted on its body. The Type II’s armaments consisted of a beam carbine, a sword and standard shield. In October C.E. 73, a group of extremist Coordinators dedicated to the ideals of the late ZAFT leader Patrick Zala used several Type II units to install flare motors on the ruined Junius Seven PLANT. Their plan: to drop Junius Seven on Earth and continue the path laid out for Coordinators by Zala. ZAFT sent several ZGMF-601R GuAIZ R units to Junius Seven to install meteor breakers, but the unarmed units were easy prey for the GINNs. After a fierce battle, all the GINNs were destroyed, and the battleship Minerva blasted Junius Seven to pieces during atmospheric reentry. However, the fragments of Junius Seven caused widespread damage on Earth, and the Break the World incident triggered the Second Bloody Valentine War.
