With the outbreak of the One Year War in UC 0079, the Earth Federation Forces hastily converted their Columbus class supply ships into fighter (and later mobile suit) carriers. After the war, the EFF refit the Columbus class and increased the length of its cargo compartment. The modified versions were unarmed. In November UC 0083, a modified Columbus served as the control ship for the EFF’s Solar System II, which was used in a failed attempt to prevent a colony drop on Earth by Zeon remnants.
