G Gundam Ep. 47: Devil Colony Activated! Attack of the Shuffle Alliance

0
Summary

At the Neo Japan space colony, Urube calls a battle alert and tells all the citizens to evacuate to the underground shelters. The Devil Gundam begins to spread around the colony, and Urube kills all the men in his control room. He makes an announcement to all the colonies and the world, and he declares himself dictator of the galaxy and abolishes the Gundam Fight. The United Colonies Federation responds by voiding the treaty that bans war. Neo America deploys its Manhattan battle area and fires its Statue of Liberty Cannon at Neo Japan, but it has no effect. Urube has the Devil Gundam return fire, and it destroys the Statue of Liberty Cannon and damages Neo America. Chibodee and the others watch in horror from Neo Hong Kong on Earth. The Devil Gundam then rises out of Neo Japan and begins to engulf the entire colony. Urube sees Domon nearby and greets him. He says his plan to use him has worked out perfectly, and now he has control of the Devil Gundam. He says that according to Wong’s research, only a woman could now function as a Life Unit, so Urube used Rain. Domon can’t believe that Urube is treating Rain as a spare part for the Devil Gundam. He sees that Urube is the one who is responsible for what happened to his family, Master Asia, and now Rain. He vows that he will never forgive Urube and will destroy the Devil Gundam. Urube has the Devil Gundam’s massive hands attack the God Gundam, and Domon evades with the help of Fuunsaiki. Wounded Dr. Mikamura stumbles into a transport tube to try and stop Urube. Back on Earth, all the Gundam Fighters begin evacuating and head back for space. The members of the Shuffle Alliance want to go to space and help Domon, but their Gundams can’t leave the atmosphere alone. Chibodee demands that Karato help them, but Karato says Urube recalled all the shuttles. Nastasha says she has a solution, and she summons a ship from under the sea. Argo sees that it is the ship that brought him to Earth, and all his pirate comrades are the crew. Nastasha takes off Argo’s handcuffs and removes the bomb from his chest so that he can fight without hesitation.

Urube says that the countries of the world are afraid of war, so they use the Gundam Fight to decide who will rule the dictatorship. He thinks it is pointless because the stronger countries will still defeat the weaker ones, so all that matters is power. Domon is forced to abandon Fuunsaiki when he is grabbed by tentacles from the Devil Gundam. Domon asks Urube what his intentions are, and Urube says he simply wants to rule the world. He says when he chased the Ultimate Gundam to Earth, he saw the Devil and signed a contract with it with the bleeding wound on his face. Tentacles grab onto the God Gundam, and Urube thanks Domon. He says watching him and Master Asia fight each other quite amusing. Urube notes that he was Neo Japan’s Gundam Fighter in the 12th Gundam Fight and was undefeated until he fought Master Asia in the Finals. He says that now Domon is being defeated by his father’s theories and his lover’s body. Domon tells him not to touch Rain, and Urube makes the tentacles squeeze the God Gundam. Three Gundam Heads prepare to fire at the God Gundam, but they are all destroyed. Domon sees the Neo Russian spaceship and the four other Gundams. Chibodee and the others say they have come to help Domon because all of the Shuffle Alliance must be present. The five Gundams then attack the Devil Gundam, but they are held back by hordes of Gundam Heads. Urube calls them useless and says it is impossible to defeat the Devil Gundam. Dr. Mikamura announces there is a way, and he stumbles into the room containing Raizo’s capsule. He says the way to defeat the Devil Gundam is to go inside the colony and attack it from within. He tells Domon what he did to him and his father was unforgivable, and it was all his fault. He begs Domon to save Rain because she is innocent. As he dies, he presses a button that releases Raizo’s capsule into space. Domon tries to grab the capsule, but Argo stops him and says Nastasha will get the capsule. Sai Saici reminds Domon that he still has to go inside and save Rain. Domon uses a Bakunetsu God Finger to create an entrance into the Devil colony.

Commentary

The series is coming very close to its conclusion, and the quality of the story is still very consistent. Urube reveals himself as a true villain, and he is responsible for everything. If not for his greed, none of the events of the series would have occurred. I was kind of surprised by the revelation that he was Neo Japan’s previous Gundam Fighter. It also seems odd that Domon didn’t appear to know that fact. I must say here that Neo America’s ultimate weapon was pretty stupid looking, but at least it explains what the Statue of Liberty was doing at the colony. Dr. Mikamura’s death at the end was quite moving, and it is probably one of the best death scenes in all of Gundam. Though he did a terrible thing to the Kasshu family, he is very repentant and makes amends before he dies. With only two episodes left, it looks like we’ve got an action-packed finale in the horizon.
