The GN-003/af-G02 Gundam Kyrios Gust was a high altitude combat equipment version of the GN-003 Gundam Kyrios. The Atmosphere Fighter Gust series Unit 2 improved the Gundam Kyrios’ mobility and shooting range, which allowed it to operate a wider range of altitudes in the atmosphere – from 0 to more than 600 km above the ground. The harsher operating conditions of the Kyrios Gust meant that the stress placed on the machine during transformation was greater. The Gundam Kyrios was incapable of escaping the atmosphere on its own, but the propulsion power of the Gust equipment allowed it to do so. The Kyrios Gust replaced the original Kyrios’ flight mode nose unit with a larger nose unit that contained a high performance composite sensor system. The large GN vernier units equipped on the suit’s legs had the strongest propulsion power among all the Gundams, and to suppress the amount of GN particles consumed, they were designed using high levels of airflow dynamics. Unlike the GN Beam Submachine Gun used by the normal Gundam Kyrios, which sacrificed power for higher rate of fire, the GN Long-Barrel Cannon was more focused on ultra long-range shooting accuracy in the unstable conditions of the stratosphere. The weapon could be linked with the sensor system in the flight mode’s nose for high firing accuracy.

During the incident later known as Meteor Nacht, the Union moved a large number of asteroids from Martian orbit to Lagrange 1 to use as raw materials for space colony construction when an unexplained explosion occurred, resulting in one of the larger asteroids starting on a collision course toward Earth. Unbeknownst to the world, the asteroid was one of Celestial Being’s secret warehouses. An incident had occurred inside the warehouse, leading to some of the stored fuel exploding and driving the asteroid toward Earth. The Union deployed its army to stop the asteroid, but they did not have the means necessary to destroy it. Veda determined that it was best to do nothing and let the asteroid disintegrate naturally; since the insides of the asteroid was a warehouse, it would break up into small fragments upon entering the atmosphere. However, as this would have severe consequences for those on the ground, the Gundam Meisters launched to reduce the damage. In space, the GN-001/hs-A01D Gundam Avalanche Exia’ sliced the asteroid into smaller pieces. In the atmosphere, the Kyrios Gust destroyed the incoming fragments that did not burn up. On the ground, the GN-002 Gundam Dynames provided assistance using its super substratospheric altitude gun.
