The GN-007GNHW/M Arios Gundam GNHW/M was an upgrade to the GN-007 Arios Gundam that placed heavy emphasis on missiles (the “M” in its name stood for missiles). Mobile suit development historian Robert Spacey contributed to its creation by tweaking the design of the GN-007/AL Arios Gundam Ascalon, removing nearly all new weapons and leaving only GN missile containers to maintain balance. The containers utilized the same GN missiles as the GNR-010 0 Raiser. The containers’ location allowed the GNHW/M to still dock with the GNR-101A GN Archer. The GNHW/M’s new main weapon was a powerful GN cannon that replaces the GN twin beam rifle. A pair of GN vulcan guns were mounted on the cannon to compensate for its low rate of fire. In flight mode, the GNHW/M could also use a nose-mounted GN beam rifle. With these new armaments, the GNHW/M could use the cannon to destroy enemies ahead of it, then fly into the middle of the enemy force and create confusion by firing missiles in random directions. This confusion created an advantageous combat situation for its partner Gundams. Following the final battle with the Innovades in 2312, the heavily damaged Arios Gundam was repaired and reconfigured into the Ascalon version.
