Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway is an ongoing movie trilogy that debuted in 2021. It is an adaptation of the Hathaway’s Flash novels written by Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino from 1989-1990. The anime adaptation is directed by Shukou Murase with a script by Yasuyuki Muto. The soundtrack is composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, and the mecha designs include work from Gundam veterans Hajime Katoki, Kimitoshi Yamane and Seiichi Nakatani. Set in UC 105, the movies focus on Hathaway Noa, a returning character from Zeta Gundam and Char’s Counterattack. Publicly, Hathaway is known as the son of the famous Capt. Bright Noa, but secretly he uses the alias Mafty Navue Erin to lead Mafty, an anti-Earth Federation terrorist group. The Japanese theatrical release was originally scheduled for 2020 but was delayed over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first movie is streaming internationally on Netflix, and production is ongoing for the second movie.
