The SDF-2 Megaroad-01 was the first ship in a new class of super long-distance colonization ships developed following the near extinction of humanity in Space War I. The SDF-2 began construction on the Moon’s Apollo Base in 2003 as the second ship of the Macross class. However, construction was abandoned during the war, and afterward, U.N. Spacy decided to redesign the ship as part of the Humanity Seeding Project. The Megaroad-01 discarded the transformation design and main gun of the Macross class and was reconceived as a lightly armed colonization ship with a complement of 80,000 colonists. The Megaroad-01 was commanded by Misa Hayase Ichijyo, a veteran of Space War I who previously served as a bridge officer on the Macross. The Megaroad-01 launched in September 2012 as the flagship of the 1st Long-Distance Emigration Fleet. Afterward, U.N. Spacy regularly constructed and launched new emigration fleets led by Megaroad ships. In 2030, the Megaroad class was succeeded by the more advanced New Macross class. The original Megaroad-01, whose complement included famous singer Lynn Minmay, ceased all communication in 2016 near the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. To avoid any negative impact on the Humanity Seeding Project, U.N. Spacy covered up the ship’s disappearance. By 2067, rumor held that the private military company Xaos intercepted a subspace transmission at the end of the Vajra Conflict in 2059 that matched the signature of the Megaroad-01.
