Following the failure of the Mars Colonization Plan, the Earth Federation abandoned the Martian colonists, who reformed as Vagan under the leadership of Fezarl Ezelcant. Using information from a fragment of the weapons database EXA-DB, the Vagans began developing a new generation of mobile suits, starting with its first mass production model, the ovv-f Gafran. With its variable frame, the Gafran could alternate between a humanoid mode and a dragon-like form. It was armed with a pair of palm-mounted beam vulcans and sabers that were standard on all Vagan suits, along with a tail-mounted beam rifle. The Gafran could also make use of the large colony destroyer missile. The Gafran made its first appearance in AG 101 when a surprise attack destroyed the space colony Angel. Throughout the next 14 years, the Gafran was unopposed by the Earth Federation Forces’ technologically inferior RGE-B790 Genoace. The balance of power changed in AG 115 when Flit Asuno created the AGE-1 Gundam AGE-1 Normal, which could fight on the Gafran’s level. By AG 140, the Gafran’s place as the main mass production model was taken by the newer ovm-e Dorado. The Gafran remained in military service as late as AG 164, relegated to rear line duty to defend the Vagan homeland, Second Moon. After the war, the Gafran was refit for civilian use as the Flight Unit 02 Everse System Gafran Mars Feather.
