Near the end of the Eve Wars of AC 195, the Romefeller Foundation was struggling to regain their control over the world that had been lost, first thanks to the Gundams and later to White Fang. One of their final attempts was the production of a series of mass produced Gundams inspired by their five archenemies. One such machine was the XXXG-01SRL Gundam Sandleon, a modified version of the XXXG-01SR Gundam Sandrock. Sandleon retained much of the original’s focus, sporting heavy armor and close combat weapons. Other than its coloration, one of the biggest changes was to the Sandrock’s distinctive weapons, the heat shotels. Sandleon reversed the concept, mounting the shotels on the forearms and having them generate intense cold instead of heat. By lowering the enemy’s armor to almost absolute zero, it was made brittle and that much easier to destroy. Supplementing these weapons were a set of standard vulcan guns and a pair of homing missiles like those of the original Sandrock. Built in secret at Romefeller’s Colony X-18722 plant, an unknown number of Sandleon units were constructed. With the end of Romefeller’s power and subsequently the end of the war, they seem resigned never to see battle. However, the following month, a group of civilians broke into the plant and stole three Gundams. A Romefeller loyalist named Dobert took one Sandleon unit to chase the rebels down, but this unit was damaged in battle with Tiel Noembreux’s XXXG-00W0S Wing Gundam Seraphim and was forced to withdraw, eventually being modified into the XXXG-01SRL2 Gundam Sandleon Custom.
