As Tekkadan neared Earth on its mission to escort Kudelia Aina Bernstein, the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos (4th Form) was upgraded to two configurations collectively known as the 5th Form. The first configuration, using parts from the mysterious Montag Company, was designed for space combat and added new forearm armor, chest-mounted reactive armor and waist-mounted flight units. The new forearm pieces were armed with 400mm mortars. After Tekkadan reached Earth, the 5th Form was reconfigured for ground combat, which involved removing the chest armor and boosters. The mortars mounted on the forearms were replaced with a pair of 170mm autocannons, and new feet were added to improve mobility under gravity. The ground configuration of the 5th Form also carried a powerful new wrench mace that mounted a chainsaw for cutting attacks. While on Earth, the suit was further upgraded to the 6th Form.
