Code Geass R2 Turn 11: Power of Passion

0
Summary

Students gather outside Ashford for news about Milly. Lelouch tells everyone in the student council that she’s ok. He hands Shirley a handkerchief, and Rolo takes him aside to the secret entrance to the base. He tells Lelouch that he’s being too nice as a double. Inside the base, “Lelouch” removes the mask, revealing Sayoko’s face underneath. Inside the secret base, Viletta tells them that Lelouch is in trouble and facing off against Schneizel. Ohgi thinks they’ll be ok since they have Tianzi, but just then the Chinese begin bombarding the area by air. Li orders his forces to hold fire, but the eunuchs tell him they’re going to bury Tianzi there because they’re already preparing another Tianzi they can marry off to Odysseus. Li turns to face the eunuchs, but he’s blocked by Gino’s Tristan. Li tells Gino not to get involved in his country’s problems, but Gino points out that on the international stage, the eunuchs represent China. As they trade blows, Gino also mentions that he owes the Guren Flight‘s pilot something from earlier. Tohdoh, Chiba and Asahina launch, and C.C. decides to go out in her Akatsuki Zikisan as well. Chinese reinforcements arrive, along with the Lancelot Conquista and Mordred. Anya uses her hadron cannon to destroy several Gun-Rus, while Li fights Gino. The eunuchs speak with Lelouch, who points out that Tianzi will die if they keep up their bombardment. The eunuchs point out that Tianzi is a disposable system, and he asks what he can offer that is better than their deal with Britannia. They say that deal was a good bargain, but he doesn’t thing selling out their own people is fair. In the air, Suzaku fights Tohdoh’s Zangetsu while mass production Vincent Wards attack the Chinese. Tianzi runs up to the top deck of the Ikaruga and screams out for everyone to stop fighting. Li tries to approach her, but he’s hit by Gino’s slash harkens. The Gun-Rus loyal to the eunuchs open fire, but Li lands on the Ikaruga and spins his slash harkens as a shield to block them. Li tells Tianzi to run away to safety, but she tells him he has to be with her now that she’s in the outside world. Li wonders if he won’t be able to protect Tianzi, and he asks anyone to save her. A load of fire hits the Ikaruga, but it’s blocked by Lelouch’s new Knightmare Frame, the Shinkirou.

Lelouch asks the Britannians and eunuchs if they want to keep fighting, and the Chinese open fire. A shield protects the Shinkirou, and Nina recognizes it as being part of the druid system. On the Ikaruga bridge, Rakshata boasts that the Shinkirou’s absolute protection territory gives it the highest defensive power in the world. Lelouch then fires a crystal which is hit by a beam, reflecting the beam in many directions. Lelouch tells Li he’s pathetic because he couldn’t even save one woman, but he offers to join forces. Li doesn’t want to be a subordinate, and Lelouch tells him he has the ability to lead a country. Li asks Lelouch if he thinks he can turn the tide of the battle with just the Shinkirou, and Lelouch says battles aren’t won by just real time tactics, but by strategy. The eunuchs are then informed that a full-scale rebellion has broken out in Shanghai, Beijing, Jakarta, Islamabad and other places in the federation. Cecile thinks that Zero’s conversation with the eunuchs must’ve been leaked to the public. Kanon thinks Zero is moving too fast, but Schneizel wonders if he didn’t take advantage of an already existing plan. That’s exactly what Lelouch has done, by staging a civilian revolt to coincide with Li’s coup. Chiba and C.C. team up to attack Anya, and C.C. has a strange Geass reaction to Anya. Asahina attacks Anya, forcing her to crash into the ground. The Black Knights ground forces move forward, and Schneizel decides to retreat since the eunuchs have lost the ability to represent the Chinese Federation. Li then smashes into the Leung Tan and kills all the eunuchs himself. Lelouch asks about Kallen, and Zhou explains that they gave her to Suzaku. Lelouch thinks to himself that Suzaku is taking away everything he possesses. In the desert, Bartley Asprius meets with Jeremiah and V.V. He wonders why he’s there, and V.V. points out that he was the one who rebuilt Jeremiah in an attempt to copy C.C.’s powers. Jeremiah says it’s an honor for him to have Bartley perform his final adjustments. Elsewhere, Tianzi says goodbye to Li, who promises to protect her. Tianzi starts to cry, and Diethard suggests that Lelouch have her marry a Japanese person. Kaguya insists that he can’t because it’s a matter of love. Chiba objects as well, and Tamaki walks into it by asking about his position. Lelouch thinks about what he should do and if he should use Geass. He then gets a phone call from Shirley, who asks about Milly’s graduation event. Lelouch asks her about breaking up a couple for political reasons, but she tells him he can’t do that because love is power. She almost confesses how she feels, and he realizes that his will can help change the world. He then goes outside and tells Tianzi that her future is her own. Li shakes Lelouch’s hand and says he thinks he understands him better. Later, Shirley wonders why Lelouch has been acting strangely and runs into Sayoko at the library. Since the secret entrance is open, Sayoko kisses Shirley so she doesn’t see it. In his quarters, Lelouch tells C.C. that he wants to return to his original plan of taking out the Geass Order that creates Geass users. C.C. tells him that it’ll be difficult to find, but that’s why he’s taken in the Chinese Federation, since they know it’s somewhere in China. Later, Lelouch returns to Ashford with the Shinkirou’s submarine mode. Back at school, Shirley asks Lelouch about what happened before, but she’s interrupted when Anya takes a picture. Gino comes out as well in a school uniform and greets Lelouch.

Commentary

The Chinese arc comes to an end with Lelouch ahead. Despite the presence of Schneizel, Lelouch turned things around by having his conversation with the eunuchs leaked. When they expressed their disdain for the common people, it triggered a revolution, thus turning the tables. Doing that also put Li on Lelouch’s side, giving him a skilled partner to work with rather than an enemy. We also get to see the debut of the Shinkirou, which is definitely designed in the spirit of the Gawain. It’s got some nice weapons, and it’s good to see Lelouch in combat again. Meanwhile, Sayoko poses as Lelouch in school, but the idea of her doubling for Lelouch with a perfect face mask is a little goofy and Mission Impossible-ish. She also creates some problems for Lelouch by acting too nice to people and kissing Shirley. There was an interesting point in this episode, and that’s C.C.’s Geass reaction to Anya. There were images of Marianne in that, so it makes you wonder about Anya’s connection to that, especially since she has a photo of young Lelouch. We also learn that V.V.’s Geass Order is somewhere inside China, which is the whole reason Lelouch started his plan: to gain the resources of China and find V.V. Finally, Lelouch has some added annoyances at school with Gino and Anya showing up as students. Hijinks will ensue.
