Technical and Historical Notes

The GNX-612T/AA Superbia GN-X was a specialized unit developed for assault landings from the sea. The suit was named for both the Latin word for “pride” and the English word “super,” which indicated that the suit’s performance was close to that of a next generation machine. The “AA” in its model number stood for “Amphibious Assault.” Because few current mobile suits were capable of operating underwater, the Superbia GN-X could effectively carry out missions like surprise attacks. The Assault Landing Unit necessary for underwater operation was purged upon landing. The Assault Landing Unit was comprised of a hover unit, weapons pack and sensor unit. It helped the suit to maneuver underwater or on the water’s surface. The camera parts of the sensor unit were an improved version of those used by GNMA-04B11 Trilobite. There were slight gaps in the head as a new sensor unit was forcefully integrated into the frame of a GN-X head unit. This new sensor unit was also used by the GNMA-0001V Regnant. The Innovades who called themselves Innovators were directly involved in the suit’s development.

Starting with the Gundams, many suits had retractable claws in their soles. The Superbia GN-X used an enlarged version of these claws to grip onto the surface more firmly. The GN Kunai was a combination of a physical GN Sword (the base unit) with a GN Vulcan Gun. In addition, it also contained a GN Beam Needle as a surprise weapon. Like the GNX-803T GN-XIV, a pair of GN Vulcan Guns were mounted on the waist. The disc-shaped parts next to the GN Vulcans were the hardpoints for mounting the assault landing unit. Although this machine was categorized as a GNX-609T GN-XIII during development, it incorporated many innovative technologies (some of them belonging to the Innovators), and it was close to the GN-XIV that was under development as a next generation machine. While it was considered an Earth Sphere Federation machine, the ESF army was already under the control of A-LAWS when it was developed, and in reality, it was used only for special missions led by the A-LAWS. Its pilots were also A-LAWS members, or licensors with special permissions. Although it participated in many missions, most of its records were considered secret, and the details were unclear.
