The GNZ-001 GRM Gundam was a mobile suit developed by the Innovades as the prototype to the GNZ-003 Gadessa. Its name stood for “Generation of Reborn MS,” but was also a reference to Garm, the dog in Norse mythology guarding Hel’s gate. The suit was designed using Gundam data stored within Veda, and elements like the Core Fighter were borrowed from the second generation GNY-004 Gundam Plutone. However, the Core Fighter in the GRM Gundam functioned as an escape unit for the pilot, whereas the one in the Gundam Plutone was for recovering an original GN Drive. The Gundam aesthetic was removed from later GNZ series suits due to the Innovades having to work as members of A-LAWS. The feet of the GNZ series usually adopted a configuration that was not suitable for ground use, due to fights between GN Drive equipped suits often being aerial battles. The GRM Gundam’s feet did not have such a configuration, which might be due to its prototype nature.
The suit’s GN Mega Launcher was the prototype of the Gadessa’s. The cannon’s beam was weaker than that of the Gadessa’s, as it only had two short movable barrels. However, it was easier to wield and could be held in hand, unlike the Gadessa’s, which had to be attached to the waist. Using the data gathered from GRM Gundam, the Gadessa’s GN Mega Launcher was designed to use an energy pack to overcome its high GN particle consumption. Like the Gadessa, the beam sabers were stored in the side armors and the GN Vulcan Guns were mounted on the forearms. The GRM’s GN Shield could produce a GN Field, which was further developed in the GN Field of the GNZ-005 Garazzo. During his first visit to the spaceship Celestial Being, engineer Billy Katagiri saw the GRM Gundam in one of the hangars. The suit later fell into the hands of the reborn Fereshte and was stored inside an orbital elevator as a reserve unit. The suit had no power source, but during the ELS conflict in 2314, Fereshte obtained a GN Drive Tau from a military facility within the elevator. The GRM Gundam then served as a rear defense unit during the ELS invasion. While protecting a facility containing potential Innovators, the suit was assimilated by the ELS and redesignated as the GNZ-001E GRM Gundam E.
