The VF-1S Valkyrie was a variant of the VF-1A manufactured by Northrom for use by U.N. Spacy. Compared the VF-1A, the VF-1S utilized a different head design with four anti-aircraft laser cannons. Additionally, it featured enhanced engines that have improved thrust. The VF-1S variant was typically assigned to commanders and squadron leaders, such as Roy Focker of the Skull Squadron stationed aboard the Macross.
