Episode 45: Farewell Master! Master Asia's Last Breath

Review by Chris Guanche

November 21, 2001

Summary

Chibodee, George, Sai Saici, Argo, Master Asia and Wong all watch the Devil Gundam crash into the ground. Master Asia blames Domon and declares that he is unforgivable. Domon accuses Master Asia of trying to take over the world, and Master Asia says that was never his intention. He says Domon will have to defeat him if he wishes to know the real reason. Domon agrees, and the last Gundam Fight begins. Chibodee's girls want to help, but he explains they cannot interfere in what will probably be the best Gundam Fight in history. Domon and Master Asia fight furiously until Master Asia uses a new move, the Juuni Ouhouhai. Bits fly out of the Master Gundam and attack the God Gundam, paralyzing it. Master Asia tells Domon to remember what old Hong Kong looked like. He reminds him of the ruins in Kyoto, Paris, London, and Tokyo. He says the Gundam Fight is spreading that extinction around the world and he wanted to use the Devil Gundam to restore it. Wong says he wants Master Asia to win the Gundam Fight and restore Earth. Master Asia calls him a hypocrite and says the Devil Gundam will destroy humanity. He explains that after the Ultimate Gundam crashed, it malfunctioned and concluded that destroying humanity will restore Earth. Wong thinks he is insane, and the ground begins to shake. Rain and Allenby come out of the water and fight near Wong's building. Allenby gets in front of him and destroys his building. Rain uses the beam bow to fire the Rising Arrow at the Walter Gundam's head and destroy it.

Rain gets out of the Rising Gundam and finds Allenby's body nearby. Rain is sorry that she couldn't save her, and her father says there is a chance because Allenby's body isn't totally contaminated with DG cells. He says this is all a result of his treachery, and he decides he will turn himself in to prove Professor Kasshu's innocence. Domon and Master Asia continue to fight. They perform the God Finger and Darkness Finger at the same time, and Domon senses great sadness coming from Master Asia. Master Asia asks Domon if he understands his feelings, and Domon says he is a butcher who wants to massacre people. Domon says that humanity is a part of nature that coexists with it, so destroying humanity would destroy nature. Master Asia says the winner will decide what is true. They both go into their Hyper Modes and fire the Sekiha Tenkyoken at each other. Domon holds off Master Asia's blast for a while, but he starts to fall from the pressure. Master Asia calls him a fool, and Domon tells him to shut up. He puts all his effort into the blast and knocks Master Asia away. He then performs the Sekiha Tenkyoken God Finger and destroys the Master Gundam. Master Asia says that Domon is now the only true King of Hearts. The ring around the Earth vanishes, ending the Gundam Fight. Master Asia's spirit floats in space, and the old Shuffle Alliance visits him. They apologize to him and say he had the right idea, but the wrong way of doing it. Domon holds Master Asia in his arms, and Master Asia tells him he learned what a terrible mistake he was going to make. He sees that humanity is a part of nature that must exist with it. He also shows Domon his chest and says he was never infected with DG cells. As the sun rises, Master Asia notes how beautiful it is and dies.

Commentary

The Gundam Fight is now over, and some of the major players are out of the picture. Master Asia is gone, as is Wong. Wong certainly died badly, but it was what he deserved for his actions. Allenby is also apparently dead, but Dr. Mikamura says there is hope. It's good to see that he decided to face the consequences of his actions and is going to turn himself in. Domon's final battle with Master Asia is quite good, and he emerges as the true winner of the Gundam Fight. Master Asia's motives seem a bit strange though. He seems to represent himself as a misunderstood pro-Earth person like Char Aznable. What's strange is that he wants to resurrect the Earth, but he destroyed Tokyo and caused havoc in the Guiana Highlands. Despite that, there is some real emotion displayed in the final moments of the battle between Master and Domon. The 13th Gundam Fight is over, but this series isn't.
