Episode 11: The Fall of Nocis

Review by Chris Guanche

June 5, 2002

Summary

Dianna stands alone on a cliff and watches the sunrise. Loran comes and asks what she's doing, and she tells him she wanted to see a beautiful place. After watching the area, they ride back home on his bicycle. Elsewhere, Michael tells Guin that the Militia soldiers will get restless if they don't have a chance to attack the Moonrace. Guin says he doesn't want to be the side that breaks the ceasefire agreement. He says that if the Moonrace wants to live on Earth they will have to pay his price with their technology. Loran leaves to help Sid excavate more Kapools. Joseph doesn't know if Loran can be trusted, and Sid tells him if he wants to fight that he can use the new FLAT that the Militia got. At the Moonrace camp, Corin is restless and wants to fight. Phil tells him that they have a ceasefire, and Corin says that's the best time to swoop in and kill everyone. He says the point of Dianna calling for more forces was to build up the army and fight. On the Soleil, Miran tells Kihel that he wants to investigate the Sunbelt zone so that they don't have to deal with Guin. Kihel tells them they must take care of things in Inglessa first and says she wants to meet with Kihel again. Loran continues with the excavation and finds the Turn A's shield in the ground. Sid asks him to take a look at an excavated part of the mine, but Loran doesn't recognize anything. He wonders if both sides can live together, and Sid says though he doesn't want too many Moonrace on Earth, he wants them to live equally. At a Militia base, Yanny and Michael plan to attack the Soleil and either capture it or destroy it. Keith tells Fran that he sold the FLAT and explains that since they've decided to live on Earth they don't need it anymore. Smoke rises from a nearby battle, and Fran runs off to investigate.

On the Soleil, Miran tells Harry he wants to move the ship to the Sunbelt zone without Dianna's permission. Phil and Pou move out with Wodoms and Wads to attack the Militia forces excavating the nearby mountain. Corin, Bruno and Jacop move out on their own and begin shooting at Nocis. Harry is informed that the Militia forces are coming, and a large force of Bull Ones and Hip Heavies begins attacking. Kihel passes the order that no one is to be killed, and Harry tells his men to fight carefully. Sochie and Miashei attack with their Kapools, followed by Joseph in the FLAT and Yanny in a Rib. Joseph throws boxes filled with explosives at the SUMOs, and Harry wonders how the Militia got a FLAT. Kihel goes to the ship's bridge, and Miran tells her they will be moving out for the Sunbelt zone. As the Soleil and Almaiya take off, the battle ends since the Militia cannot pursue. Corin continues to destroy Nocis and damages Bostonia Castle. Guin is caught in a traffic jam and tries to buy a horse, but the rider says money is worthless and knocks Guin away. Corin stands atop Bostonia Castle and calls the Gundam out to fight with him. Michael sends an order to Loran to use the Turn A to fight off the remaining Dianna Counter forces. Dianna tells Loran to take her to the Soleil so that she can try to negotiate with Dianna. Phil's squad arrives near the mountain, and a Dianna Counter soldier named Ralfa Zenoa tells him their own forces are on the mountain too. Phil says the Militia is there too and has the Wodoms fire their beam cannons at the mountain. Loran holds Dianna in his hand and tries to block all the falling rocks with the Turn A's shield. As the Soleil flies over devastated Nocis, Kihel hopes that her mother, Jessica and Sam are safe. In the city, Fran takes pictures of the Eagail and Gozzos and notes that they aren't standard Dianna Counter mobile suits. As Corin destroys more buildings, he calls out to the Gundam to come and fight him.

Commentary

There's quite a lot going on in this episode, and it's a change from the previous character driven one. Surprisingly, in both these episodes Loran is barely even in them. The war starts up again in full force with Corin's devastating rampage through Nocis. Also, it looks like Kihel and Dianna are stuck switched now. It looks like Kihel wanted to switch back by summoning herself to the ship, but now that won't happen with the battle that occurred. The Militia keeps getting more mobile suits, but they seem to think their old antiquated weapons can actually cause damage. Guin's political maneuvering comes crashing down with the city's destruction, and he sees his failure first hand while trying to buy that horse. In Loran's limited appearance here, we see that he and Dianna are in trouble from Phil's attack. If only they really knew who was with them...
