Summary

On the Alexandria, Jamaican scolds Jerid for losing so many mobile suits to the AEUG. Lila tries to explain that the people on the Argama are no easy opponents because they might be Newtypes. Jamaican doesn't believe in Newtypes and dismisses them. On the Argama, Kamille meets with Emma, Henken and Blex. They are impressed by his piloting skills and want him to officially become an AEUG pilot. Kamille is hesitant about joining because he's young, but they explain that during the One Year War, most of the soldiers on the White Base were his age. Kamille says he'll consider it and talks to Char. Char explains how people on Earth have their souls held down by gravity. Char wants Kamille to become a pilot because he can't find Amuro anywhere despite an extensive search. The Argama sets course for the Side 4 sector so they can ditch the Titans and reach their true objective: Side 1's Colony 30. The Argama enters the Side 4 area, and Jamaican suspects they will go in one of three directions: Side 1, Side 2 or the Moon. Lila leaves the ship to conduct her own search and is asked on a date by Jerid. After passing through the Side 4 sector, the Argama heads for Colony 30. Blex and Henken want Emma to see what the Titans did there two years earlier so she can see how horrid they are. As the Argama enters Colony 30, Lila locates them and assumes that Colony 30 is an AEUG base. She enters the colony from the opposite end to head them off. Kamille, Emma, and Char enter the ruined city and immediately are shocked to see dozens of mummified corpses.

When Kamille asks, Char explains the corpses were left alone because there are too many to clean up (three million). He also says there as an anti-Federation rally there advocating equality for the colonies, and that Bask used poison gas on them all. Lila and her men enter the colony through the industrial hatch and head for the town. Kamille goes off on his own and is held hostage by Lila. Emma asks why Bask would go so far, and Char explains that the Federation fears Newtypes and is scared that spacenoids will evolve into Newtypes and take control. Lila jumps out from where she is and holds a gun to Kamille's head. She tells Char that his statements are nothing but Zabi propaganda, and he says the Federation is becoming another Zabi family. Lila runs off, and the three of them head for the Argama. Kamille launches in the Mk II, and Char borrows Apolly's Rick Dias. Kamille encounters Lila's Galbaldy Beta, and she's surprised he's a pilot. He grapples onto the Galbaldy Beta and asks her to give up, but she refuses and shoots at him. Kamille evades her fire and hides inside a damaged part of the colony. He ambushes her when she flies by and attacks her again. Jerid wonders why Jamaican is holding back support, and Jamaican says it is so Jerid becomes a better soldier. Lila is enraged that a kid is beating her and loses control. Kamille manages to line up a critical shot and destroys the Galbaldy Beta. Jerid watches her die from the Alexandria and breaks down in tears. Back on the Argama, everyone hails Kamille as the second coming of Amuro Ray. He says he doesn't quite believe that and would like to stay the way he is a little while longer before becoming a pilot.

Commentary

In the previous episode, the Colony 30 incident is mentioned, and that description was bad enough. But to actually see the ruins of the colony, with three million corpses floating around...that's a lot to handle. Not surprisingly, Emma now believes the AEUG's statements that the Titans are corrupt. Even though this is supposed to be a secret incident, Lila and the other Federation Forces seemed to know about it. Since Kamille didn't, it seems that the news never spread beyond the military. Everyone says he is the second coming of Amuro, and based on the increased skills he shows here, that could certainly be true. Jerid also has some growth in this episode and shows another side other than jet jockey pilot. His feud with Kamille will certainly intensify after this, now that they have both killed someone they each care about.
