Episode 41: Battle of the Space Ring

Review by Joel Jankiewicz

August 24, 2005

On the Orbital Ring, at the first spaceport monitor station, Noal is keeping a track on Sword, who is heading for the 8th spaceport. While Rebin is doing repairs, Aki is wondering if D-Boy and Balzak are alright. Balzak comes into the room and tells them he’s ok. He tells them that he and D-Boy just got separated, and Rebin confirms this when he repairs the sensors in their general area and pick up D-Boy and Pegas heading for the 8th spaceport. Noal gets ready to get back into his suit, and Aki decides to come along. Meanwhile, D-Boy has stopped walking, and looks out a window. While Pegas is asking him if he’s alright, D-Boy imagines Miyuki, then Shinya comes into his mind. D-Boy is surprised for a second, then is surprised by Pegas when he continues to ask if he’s alright. D-Boy doesn’t understand why Pegas is calling him “D-Boy”, and tells Pegas to back off, and Pegas backs up. As D-Boy continues to walk, Pegas follows him, and D-Boy gets annoyed by it. Pegas tells him that he’s needed to aid D-Boy in his Tekkaman functions, then starts talking about his manufacture number. D-Boy tells him to be quiet, and just lets Pegas follow him. Aki in a hover jeep is ahead of Noal and Balzak who are running in their Sol Tekkaman suits, but stop once they reach a dead end in the hall that was taking them to spaceport 8 and D-Boy. Aki decides to put on a helmet and says the three of them can go out an air lock and move through space to cut time. Aki goes out first, followed by Noal and Balzak. At Spaceport 8, Sword has managed to arrive first, and recalls when she was at spaceport 8 when the Argos was getting ready to launch. She remembers Kengo giving her a ring to propose to her, with the entire Aiba family in agreement with the idea. Miyuki says she stowed in a wedding cake since she predicted this would happen. Sword goes on by saying that if Argos had arrived 1 day later, they would’ve never found the probe, and both her and Kengo would be married. But she throws the memory aside and closes the main doors to the port, and starts destroying it and the ships inside. A short distance away, D-Boy and Pegas arrive, and D-Boy gets a strange feeling. Pegas reports of a life form in the port, and when D-Boy thinks it’s Shinya, he sees and explosion in the port.

Rebin finishes another batch of repairs in the monitor room and checks on the weapon’s systems. A technician tries one of the ion cannon satellites on an abandoned satellite and the test proves successful. Aki, Noal, and Balzak are surprised, but Rebin calms them down over the com by telling them what happened. Aki asks Rebin where D-Boy and Sword are, and Rebin says they’re not far from each other in spaceport 8 and that there high readings there. Aki wastes no time, and continues to move. D-Boy realizes he’s arrived too late, and then sees Sword on the wreckage of a ship, but he doesn’t recognize her. At the Radam base, Shinya is aware of what’s going on, and is infuriated that Sword is attacking D-Boy and not him. Sword attacks D-Boy, and he manages to get out of the way. He tells himself he has to change into Tekkaman-Blade, but he tries to grab for something, then says he lost his crystal. Pegas stands between him and Sword, but D-Boy is crawling on the floor ‘looking’ for his crystal. Pegas tries to tell D-Boy what happened to it, and Sword is surprised at how bad D-Boy’s memory has become. Sword tells him to get up, and then he says his name is Takaya Aiba, and then remembers Sword as Hun Rii. Sword tells him he’s right and asks him to join back with his family. While she’s trying to convince him, Aki arrives at the spaceport, but wonders what exactly is happening. D-Boy refuses, and accuses Hun Rii of being one reason his family was destroyed. Sword doesn’t waste anymore time and goes after D-Boy again, and manages to get passed Pegas. Just before she gets to him, a section of the top door hanger blows up, knocking Sword and D-Boy around. Aki comes in with Noal and Balzak, and catches D-Boy. Rebin manages to close the shutter doors, making sure the spaceport doesn’t come apart. While D-Boy thanks Aki for the rescue, Noal and Balzak try to hold Sword off with their wrist cannons, but can’t hurt her. She rams Balzak and pins him against a wall, but he shoves her off and positions back to the damaged door. Noal tells Rebin to open the shutter for the door, and as it opens, Noal rams Sword outside, and Balzak follows him, with the door closing once they’re out. Noal moves aside for Balzak to use his cannons, but can’t hit Sword. D-Boy tells Aki he lost the crystal, but she’s shocked at what he’s saying. Pegas tells her what happened, and Aki tells D-Boy what happened to his crystal. D-Boy asks her to help him change into Tekkaman-Blade, but then she disagrees with the idea, saying that turning into Tekkaman-Blade is the reason his memory gets worse, and thinks that it would be best for him not to change. D-Boy says he has to fight Radam, but as they’re arguing, Sword gets back into the hanger and attacks D-Boy. Aki realizes he can’t survive unless he’s Tekkaman-Blade, and reprograms Pegas to respond to her voice. Noal and Balzak catch up and grab ahold of Sword, while Aki commands Pegas to open the interlock chamber for D-Boy. Just as Sword shakes off Noal and Balzak, Pegas’s chamber sucks D-Boy in and starts the transformation. D-Boy becomes Tekkaman-Blade, and he asks Sword if she still wants to fight. He tells her that because Radam took everything away from him, he’ll never forget it and will always hate Radam, which is what he’ll never lose. Blade evolves into his Blaster form, and Sword charges him as he’s charging his Vol-Tekkers. Omega telepathically tells Sword to flee, and she flees just as Blade fires the Vol-Tekkers, and destroys the spaceport completely. Rebin tries to call for anyone on the com, and Noal answers him, saying they’re okay, but the spaceport is toast. Blade is back into his normal form and leaning against a wall, and asks Aki what good is he if his memory is undependable. He tells her he’s scared and asks if he should give up. Aki tells him he can’t give up and hugs him, and continues to wish he keeps going. At the Radam base, Omega is pleased to see Hun Rii is unharmed and that the last spaceport was destroyed. Hun Rii asks him why he called her back, and he says he has no desire to lose her. He goes on by saying that he needs to rest so that the Radam mothership can then move to the Earth, and orders Hun Rii to release Shinya. He says that he is willing to let Shinya evolve, even though it means he may die, but he says he’ll then have a chance to destroy Blade. In the prison pod Shinya is in, Hun Rii tells him he has another chance to kill his brother, and he accepts the task given to him. He’s released from his pod, and Hun Rii gives him back his crystal, and asks him why he’d risk death to kill his brother, which to her seems mad. Shinya tells her it’s not madness, and says it’s destiny.

I think we’ve had an explosive finish to this small arc. D-Boy’s memory grows worse and worse, and it isn’t getting better. Come on, he even almost forgot Sword, and almost forgot that his crystal shattered. Even though Sword has fled, the last spaceport is gone, which gives time for Omega to carry out his plan to descend to Earth with the Radam ship on the moon. Shinya has been set loose, so one can only wonder what this wild dog will do now. With no other way to get the moon at the moment, looks like the crew is stuck waiting to see what happens next for now.
