A gold huge plated kit from the Turn A series. This is
the SUMO used by Harry Ord, captain of the royal guard.
Head
The head is simple, a top and a bottom half the sandwich the faceplate
and a polycap. You have to choose which of the faces you put in
the head and switching them is a pain. The sticker for the 'closed'
face looks perfect, but the silver face looks flat and fake. The
head only has side-to-side motion due to its mushroom-like shape.
Torso
Again, simple. The chest is a 3 part inner structure that has
some kind of 'Helical Phase Hyperoscillation Gauge-Collapser-Pile'
(???) in it. This is enclosed by the gold outer armor that the
cockpit, back armor, and backpack attach to. The front of the
chest slides out and up to reveal the HPHGCP. The octagonal backpack
has an interesting shape with a lot of panel lines. The cockpit
is made of 2 halves that make the cylinder and the little Harry
figure, and a clear purple cover piece. The chest plugs into a
barrel-like lower torso. Its design allows the SUMO to twist in
any direction like a person. This all plugs into the 3-part hip
structure with no skirt armor. This is real important for the
leg movement. The back of the hips has a plug for the heat fan.
Arms
As with all parts of the SUMO, the arms are massive. The shoulders/upper
arms are made up of a huge inner ball that's covered by gold armor.
The back plate will scrape against this somewhat when you rotate
it back and scrape off the plating, so be careful. This is also
where the most noticeable scars are. The elbow is a sphere, that
lets the arm twist in any direction at the joint. The lower arm
has an inner part with simple details that's covered in gold armor.
There's a plug for the I-field generator on each arm. Hands are
massive with 3 moveable joined fingers and independent trigger
finger, but a fixed thumb. They attach with a ball joint to the
arms. The fingers are hollow on the inside, but with the hands
in fists or holding weapons, no one will notice.
Legs
The
hips have a sphere-like construction that plugs into the torso.
This, along with the lack of skirt armor, allows the SUMO to kneel,
do a running pose, almost anything you can think of! The back
of the legs has a neat raised white structure going down the back
of them. There is no knee block. The awesome design of the SUMO
has one sliding joint on the upper leg that plugs into a sliding
joint on the lower leg. The lower leg has a part in the back that
pops up to reveal some kind of inner thrusters. The flaring ankle
guard covers all scars on the lower legs. The feet are large and
blocky which supports the weigh of the SUMO well. Watch out how
you connect the 'toe' part, the top and bottom are very similar
but only the right way give the SUMO stability.
Weapons
and Accessories
The
big SUMO has some little weapons. First off a small, but chunky
beam pistol. This has a golden hand guard on it that the SUMO
has some problems holding and supporting. Good poses are possible,
but it's a bit of a balancing act. There
are two heat fans, one for fighting, and one that folds for storage
on the back of the hips. The folding one is hollow on the side
that faces the SUMO, but the body gets in the way of seeing most
of that. The other heat fan is easily held and twists in the middle.
The I-field generator is another massive, simple 3-part accessory.
It plugs into either arm fine and doesn't weigh it down. Two clear
beams are included, one short and one long. Both have details
molded into them.
Conclusion
This kit is the probably best deal you could ask for, it's as
impressive as a MG at a HG price. Its hands down the most flexible
model I have owing to the design. Scars are barely noticeable.
Almost all are hidden or in areas that you won't notice unless
you know they're there. The size and gold plating just scream
for attention. Painting is minimal, but painting the panel lines
does wonders for presentation. I really suggest wearing gloves
or something when working on this thing or you'll get fingerprints
on it. This kit is has tons of great things going for it: simple,
flexible, easy construction, hides scars, comes out looking like
a million bucks.
