The Orb Union’s weapons research led to the creation of a new type of battleship: the Izumo class. This new battleship design also served as the basis for the Earth Alliance’s new Archangel class. The original Izumo was operated by Orb’s Sahaku noble family, while its sister ship Kusanagi belonged to the rival Athha family. The Izumo featured the same armaments as its sister ship, including a “Lohengrin” positron blaster gun, as well as several beam guns and missile launchers. In the later part of the Bloody Valentine War, the Izumo served as the base of operations for the devious Coordinator Rondo Ghina Sahaku, who planned to play the Alliance and ZAFT against each other for Orb’s gain. His death at the hands of MBF-P03secondL Gundam Astray Blue Frame Second L pilot Gai Murakumo cut short his plans for domination, but they were continued by his twin sister, Rondo Mina Sahaku.
