The GNY-0042-874 Gundam Artemie was a third generation Gundam created for Gundam Meister 874, an Innovade who also served as a second generation pilot. However, unlike other Innovades, 874 existed only in data form. Because her complete data was too large to store on the mobile suit, she needed a constant data link with Veda to pilot the suit. This had the downside of 874 losing control if the data link was disconnected. Veda prepared a physical body for 874 to eliminate this issue, but 874 rejected the body because she believed using it would take a life. As a result, Veda cancelled the plan for 874 to be a third generation Meister and ended development of the Gundam Artemie, which was based on the GNY-004 Gundam Plutone. In her place, Veda later selected Tieria Erde and the GN-004 Gundam Nadleeh. When 874 decided that she needed to fight the Innovade Beside Pain and his plan to sabotage the human Meisters, she convinced engineer Ian Vashti to help her assemble the Gundam Artemie’s parts. To pilot the suit, she took control of the body of 887.

Gundams were normally named by Veda based on function and usage, with names coming from myths or legends. The name Artemie was chosen by 874 because the suit resembled a bee, the symbol of the moon goddess Artemie, and a bee’s flight path resembled the number 8, which also represented 874 and 887. The GN-XXX Gundam Rasiel‘s GN Drive was used to power the Gundam Artemie and was housed in a separate module resembling a bee-like behind. The Gundam Artemie was chosen by 874 over the Gundam Rasiel because the former was equipped with the Trial System, which allowed the authorized user to control other Veda-linked mobile suits. Veda set the hierarchy of user levels, with higher ranked Innovades having more priority. The suit’s armaments included a GN Beam Spray Gun, which could also deploy blade antennae to increase the range of the Trial System. It was also armed with four GN Bits, which could be used remotely as beam guns/sabers or as thrusters when docked. After the battle with Beside, the Gundam Artemie’s data was used in the development of the GN-004/te-A02 Gundam Nadleeh Akwos. Years later, the Gundam Artemie was heavily modified into the GNR-101A GN Archer.
