The Macross 5 was a New Macross class ship that consisted of the docked Battle class stealth space attack carrier and a City class colonization ship. In contrast to other emigration fleets, the citizens of Macross 5 were all Zentradi miclones. As a result, the Macross 5 itself utilized a Zentradi design aesthetic instead of the standard U.N. Spacy design. In September 2045, the Macross 5 fleet began surveying the habitable planet Rax for colonization and sent an invitation to the nearby Macross 7 fleet. However, soon after sending the message, the Macross 5 fleet was completely destroyed by the Varauta. The fleet’s citizens were captured and either brainwashed to serve as Varauta pilots or used in the Protodeviln’s Spiritia Farm. Eventually, the citizens of the former Macross 5 were rescued from the Protodeviln by the Macross 7.
