Following the near extinction of humanity at the end of Space War I in 2010, the Humanity Seeding Project was established to ensure the species’ survival by colonizing as many planets as possible. This led to the creation of multiple classes of long-distance emigrant fleets, starting with the Megaroad class in the 2010s and the New Macross class in the 2030s. In 2031, the Macross Galaxy launched from planet Eden as the 51st super long-distance emigration fleet. The Macross Galaxy was sponsored by large corporations like defense contractor General Galaxy, and it focused on developing advanced new technology, including cybernetic modifications that were banned by NUNS (New U.N. Spacy). Unlike other New Macross class ships, the Macross Galaxy used a new type of colony ship instead of a City ship. The fleet did not have any Zentradi residents and featured synthetic food production facilities instead of farmland. The colony ship was defended by a Battle class stealth carrier called Battle Galaxy. With its large-scale production capacity, the fleet was able to manufacture advanced variable fighters like the VF-27 Lucifer.
The Macross Galaxy fleet became notable in the late 2050s as the home to superstar singer Sheryl Nome, popularly known as the “Galactic Fairy.” In 2059, the fleet was seemingly destroyed in combat against the alien Vajra, but this was a deception and part of a conspiracy led by Grace O’Connor to seize control of the Vajra. O’Connor and her co-conspirators manipulated events throughout the year, which resulted in increasingly devastating Vajra attacks on the Macross Frontier emigrant fleet. After the conspiracy was exposed in September, Battle Galaxy was destroyed in combat against Battle Frontier, its counterpart from the Macross Frontier.
