Mobile Police Patlabor is a TV series that aired in Japan from 1989-1990. It is set in a separate timeline from the original Early Days OVA, although it features the same cast and setting. All five members of HEADGEAR served on the TV series’ creative staff, although Mamoru Oshii served only as a writer, while Early Days co-director Naoyuki Yoshinaga assumed all directorial duties. Set in 1998, the TV series positions Noa Izumi as the newest member of SV2, which has just upgraded to the new model AV-98 Ingram Patrol Labor. The series was followed by an OVA sequel, The New Files, which concluded one of the main TV storylines and also mixed in self-contained episodes. The TV series was originally released on home video in North America by Central Park Media, but it has since been re-released by Sentai Filmworks’ Maiden Japan label.
