Macross Frontier is a theatrical film series released in Japan from 2009-2011. It is a reimagining of the 2008 TV series of the same name. The main creative staff from the TV series returns, although Shoji Kawamori takes over as sole director. The movies utilize some TV footage, but also feature extensive amounts of new animation, new mecha designs and new songs. In 2021, a short film set after the movies titled Labyrinth of Time was released with the second Macross Delta movie. In 2022, Big West debuted the movies in North American theaters through Fathom Events. In the same year, Nozomi Entertainment announced a North American Blu-ray release for the movies, but no further information has surfaced following Nozomi’s acquisition by Crunchyroll. As of 2025, the movies are streaming in multiple countries on Disney+.
