During the Gryps Conflict, the Titans hold most of the mobile suit manufacturing capabilities in the Earth Sphere, leaving groups like the AEUG and Karaba with little to work with. In an attempt to get more out of their pre-existing designs, the AEUG commission Anaheim Electronics to design a support fighter/booster unit for the RMS-099 Rick Dias, similar to the FXA-05D G-Defenser. In order to properly dock with this booster, the Rick Dias has to be redesigned slightly, earning the name RMS-099S Rick Dias S. The backpack is removed, taking with it the random binder propellant tanks and the recharge racks for the beam pistols. Its new primary weapon is a long bazooka, ideal for sniping. Despite these changes, the Rick Dias S' performance is actually said to be better than the base model, thanks to minor modifications made along the way.
