Following the successful test trials of the MS-06RP Zaku II High Mobility Test Type during the One Year War, a few minor modifications are made to the design and the new MS-06R-1 Zaku II High Mobility Type goes into a limited production run of 22 units. Assigned to specially-selected pilots for field tests and evaluations, the High Mobility Type is highly popular, receiving only a handful of minor complaints and suggestions. With its additional and improved thrusters and increased fuel load, the design proves to be a considerable improvement over the standard MS-06F model. One particular R-1-type unit belongs to ace pilot Shin Matsunaga, whose distinctive white paint scheme and battle record earn him the nickname "White Wolf of Solomon."
