Technical and Historical Notes

During the Gryps Conflict, the AEUG's sister organization Karaba placed an order with Anaheim Electronics for a new artillery mobile suit suitable for use in guerilla combat with stable shooting ability. Anaheim produced the MSA-005K Guncannon DT, which used the same mobile frame as the MSA-005 Methuss units assigned to the AEUG flagship Argama. The head featured a pair of vulcan guns, and the unit also included two beam cannons, a beam gun and a beam rifle which doubled as a grenade launcher. The targeting scope and the sensor system of the Guncannon DT was quite advanced. By applying the variable form of the Methuss, it was able to assume its Artillery Form by having the front armor unfold under the waist and form a three-point support system along with the legs. This stable position allowed it to fire precise shots.

It was unknown how many Guncannon DTs were constructed by Anaheim, but two units were dropped by shuttle to North America. One unit was destroyed in a failed landing attempt, while the second was collected by Karaba and added to its military forces. Because Karaba director Hayato Kobayashi piloted an RX-77-2 Guncannon in the One Year War, the unit was painted with a red color scheme and he named it Guncannon Detector. Almost a decade later, the Earth Federation Forces utilized the Guncannon DT in the defense of Australia's Torrington Base when it came under attack from Zeon remnants in UC 0096.
